Welcome to GreyCatStation!

I love all kinds of crafts (crochet, sewing, punch needle, sublimation, drawing, painting, etc). But, I have to confess, crochet is my first love.

When I was a young girl, I watched my grandmother and aunt as they crocheted doilies and dresses for dolls. I was mesmerized by the rhythm and movement. They tried to show me how to move the hook and yarn, but I was impatient and gave up quickly.

Later, as a teenager I tried again. This time a good friend (Hi Deb!), patiently helped me do a chain and then turn and do single crochets up the chain. I made scarves and hotpads.

I put down the hook early in my twenties and didn’t pick it up again until just a few years ago, well in to my fifties. This time I was inspired by my husband, who tried to learn how to crochet or knit, to help with arthritis in his hands. Like I did years ago, he gave up before mastering the chain. But he reminded me how much I enjoyed the craft.

I started crocheting again in 2023, with baskets and bags, but grew to include amigurumi, earrings, bookmarks, and anything else I thought would be fun to try. Eventually, I began selling my creations at local craft fairs.

I put down the hook a few months ago, after experiencing a great personal loss. I took a break from my craft business and focused on coming to terms with my loss.

Thankfully, the yarn and hook began calling to me again. So, I am back to making small little trinkets.

Crochet offers me a quiet mind. When I am focused on making and counting stitches, the rest of the world fades away and I am left with just the rhythm and movement of the craft.

Crochet has eased my anxiety, calmed my soul and offered a connection to loved ones I have lost.

It’s amazing what a quiet little craft can do for one’s mental health.
